One of the two dragon types on Nysh. They are visually similar to the other type (Sha’Ral), but these ones are smaller, but also much swifter. They are usually used for delivery works due to their speed. They have longer wing-span, but their wings are less wide. They tend to go much higher up in the sky and glide periodically down or use it for speeding up. Since they don’t really flap their wings in the air, or just rarely, they are more stable.
They live at the northern part of the planet, the Sha’Kran Isles are named after them, along with the bigger towns, which got the “Sha’” prefix as a form of respect to these dragons. The inhabitants of these isles respect, love and take care about these dragons and keep up their history.
They vary in sizes, an average size adult Sha’Kran can easily fit into a 3×5 meter big room (not counting the wing size here), since their height depends on their stance, but overall they are about 2-2,5 meter tall. They can carry 3 or maximum 4 people if big enough, but usually one or maximum two person rides them and can carry additional weight (extra weight strains them, about 350 kg what they can carry somewhat still comfortably).
They are naturally tame, rather curious and friendly, however also very cautious. They are kind of emotional creatures, because they can feel their owner’s feels. It’s not uncommon, that they get depressed when left alone for a very long time (about a month or more), and they die due to depression, since they refuse to eat or even drink and instead they just curl up or lie on the ground. They can also appear to be “moody” or have “mood swings”, in these cases they are either hyperactive, irritated, lazy or simply sad.
Due to their friendliness and loyalty toward people, they tend to end up as a “pet” for people, it is actually very common at certain parts of the planet where they are used as one. There are certain rules, though, because they cannot be forced to be a pet for anyone, they have to accept the one as their owner. They need continuous company and require freedom to fly and they need to be well maintained. Sometimes, a Sha’Kran will choose its own owner, in this case you are free to go with it. However once they choose their owner, there is no way to rip them apart, if you, or in the case they choose you as their owner, they will stick with you for the rest of your life.
They don’t really like quick and sudden approaches toward them. When they feel intimidated or cornered, they stretch themselves out and take an aggressive stance up to look taller and they try to be more intimidating, while they let out an aggressive and loud crackling noise. They communicate via crackling/snorting/growling-like noises and sounds between each other, it echoes really far away and they can hear it very clearly from a great distance too. They don’t have any gender differences in behavior, act, personality or such, other than their genitalia there is no difference between female and male.
Their hearing is excellent along with their smelling, while their eyes are as good as human eyes and also able to see colors. They can use echo location when they can’t see, due to their hearing, when they get to a dark place where they can’t see anything, they periodically, about one every second (the echo/second varies depending on situation and place and whether are they flying or not, do they go/fly fast or slow), but at night, even when they can see, they tend to check for obstacles or objects via echolocation.
They are omnivorous, since they can eat meat, but they choose and prefer plants, fruits and vegetables to eat, they incredibly hate fish and it can make them sick. Even though many of them prefers plants to eat, it’s not unusual that they eat meat. Naturally they eat leaves or fruits of trees, tall grass or they smell out root vegetables and dig them up with their claws, but sometimes they tend to “hunt”, which is a rare occasion, for small creatures, like rats, mice, or even smaller birds.
Compared to their size, they actually do not need to eat continuously much to stay alive. They can go for days without eating, but they do need to drink daily and rather often. Their digestion is very slow paced, they use the energy from food as they need, instead of eating always and using the energy. They can pretty much store the food, because they have two “stomach” where the food gets stored for a while or even days and when needed their system starts to digest it in the other actual stomach for energy, as much they need. Thus they require food about every 4-5 days. Of course this can vary if they fly or being used, but the average is about 5 days. If they are continuously flying/moving they require food about every 2 days, but if they just lay around for long, they can go for 11-12 days without eating.
